We take a look at Cam Ranh Bay's past (circa 1968) and present (2006). Here, we view the My Ca Monastery and bridge. We also take a look at the lagoon at the western edge of the runway.
I was there 1971, Oscar 35, guard towers, night shift, PHANTOM FLIGHT, right to north of Ma Ca O37/ O38 also. Never could get in to Village. Your filming is awesome. I remember the same views. It gives me an errie feeling in my guts. Thanks, I think. Dave
Towards the end of my 3 1/2 yrs in & around Vietnam, I think it was May 1970 I was sent to Cam Ranch Bay to augment the Navy/Air Force Security, floating around the river flowing from the mountains to the ocean. I was made part of a 3 man security team. From sundown to sunup, 1800hrs to 0700, in a +-15ft OUTBOARD BOSTON WHALER type small boat. We would run up & down that river, dropping “CONCUSSION GRENADES”, inspecting any water traffic like sampans, canoe 🛶 & after dark was a curfew so anything, besides us, on the water, we’d stop & check, then either send them or toe them to shore or turn them in to the Vietnamese local cops or military, depending on what we determined after interviewing & inspection. As you can imagine, once in a while, things could get spicy, but we made it back in one piece.
