If you do visit Hue, make sure to visit the City of Tombs 20 km southeast from Hue. The village is called An Bang, i was born and lived there since i was a kid. It's very nice, and the tombs are beautiful. Something to see because it's fascinating.

I was stationed at Cam Ranh Bay with the 500th Transportation Group, 124th Transportation Command, 08/1967 — 07/1968. I enjoyed snorkeling around that rocky island at the beginning of the video. A couple of buddies and me used to go out there to the beach because with the nurses and Red Cross ladies being out there amonst the troops, it was like a touch of home. It was for me a wonderful experience aside from the fact I missed my wife and two children and other relatives and just being at home.

There was nothing better than taking a sunfish out on that lake during the week when eveyone else was working.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I visited Halong Bay in 1999 just as tourism started getting into gear. I did not have a deep local perspective, however, that I wished I had. Excellent Mark.

As a addendum to your history please note that the US Navy was in Cam Ranh in April or May of 1964 with the Seaplane tender USS Pine Island (AV-12) along with an aircraft from Patrol Squadron 48 (VP48) I was a member of the flight crew (Crew 12) of that aircraft. Why we were there was classified «Secret» at the time.
