The one thing that is unique in VN, especially in the last 10 yrs, is that you can get the modern Western standard hotel, travel, restaurants, at the cost we're accustomed to seeing in the West. But VN also have the cheap, affordable and practical (what you need plus slightly more like high speed internet, Grabs, etc) stuff at low price if you want. You have the flexibility, without having to stay in dangerous neighborhoods like the US and Europe.
